We are doing so much cooking these days, as we are working from home. Havvie’s passion for cooking also seems to have risen quite a lot along with mine. The best part about cooking is of course getting to eat what you made but it also is great for developing the pincer grip and hand strength which is so important when it comes to learning to write.
Here are 4 very simple activities that require very little preparation to try with your child:
- Shelling peas – breaking the shell open and picking out each pea is a great repetitive task. Here’s a shott video of Havvie enjoying this work.
- Peeling garlic skin – this can be quite tricky with fresh garlic and really requires concentration
- Picking herbs off their stem – we’ve been making pesto at home and Havvie pulls off the leaves of the herbs we use in the recipe
- Peeling a whole banana – Another great task for developing hand strength
